Beth's raised garden
Transforming a dull new-build garden into a colourful delight
Beth had a typical small new build garden which had just one large section of lawn, beneath the grass was heavy clay soil which isn't ideal for growing plants. However, the garden is south facing making it perfect for growing thanks to the amount of daylight it will receive, plus with the garden being small and fenced will help to create shelter from the wind too.

Planning the garden
Beth planned the layout of the garden herself using four large WoodBlocX structures to raise parts of the garden. She chose our Urban Corner Raised Bed for the back of the garden, using one to box in an existing apple tree, and two L-shaped raised beds for the front section.
Preparation and building
Beth did the groundwork and built the structures, using our step-by-step instructions, herself over a couple of weeks.
For structures that are built on grass, like Beth's, we supply ground spikes which are a series of long steel rods that are added to the first layer of BlocX to secure the structure in place below ground.
The finished design
Beth's completed garden features a central lawn area bordered with L-shaped borders mirroring each other, this creates two separate areas of the garden, she has added a decorative archway between the planters and added climbing plants which will eventually cover it.
The area of the garden at the back, featuring the two corner planters, still includes a central strip of lawn but now has two areas each side filled with wildflowers and bee and butterfly friendly plants to create a wilder look. Beth has also added crushed stone and a hanging seat.
The final raised beds are full of colour and Beth has added trellis to the fence behind a section of raised bed for climbing plants.
The garden has been totally transformed thanks to Beth's creative vision.
