Making ‘Grey’ Spaces Green with WoodBlocX

Making the most of the National Education Nature Park funding programme - available to schools, nurseries & colleges across England.

Did you know your school, nursery or college could receive up to £5,000 of grant funding through a government-funded programme know as the National Education Nature Park?

Available only in England, the scheme aims to help children and young people connect with nature through their educational setting, helping to improve biodiversity and take action against climate change.

Administered by the Royal Horticultural Society

The Department for Education (DfE), working in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has allocated £3 million for the 2025 to 2026 academic year to award to educational locations that meet the programmes’s criteria. For those that don’t meet the criteria, the Nature Park programme offers ways to find other funding for your project.

Since 2023, the National Education Nature Park has awarded £12 million of grant funding to more than 1,200 schools, nurseries and colleges across England to undertake scientific research, re-green ‘grey’ spaces, learn life skills and develop a meaningful connection to local nature.

Create space for plants and wildlife with WoodBlocX

Grant funding can be used for a wide range of applications including purchasing gardening equipment, fieldwork equipment, or enabling specialist support from contractors for consultation and installations.

Educational settings can also use the government funding to make ‘grey’ spaces green with biodiversity improvements, such as building raised beds and planters, planting trees, creating living walls, installing ponds and grasslands or collecting rain water.

WoodBlocX is a modular wooden brick system that is well-suited for projects in educational spaces. From raised beds to seating and ponds, our unique kits can be used to create outdoor learning spaces for everyone to enjoy. Best of all, no power tools are needed to build so children can safely get involved to help with installation.

Our structures are durable, long-lasting, and made from sustainable timber, making them a good choice for grant-funded purchases. If you need something bespoke for your setting, we offer Free Design Service with payment via invoice.
