Ryan contacted WoodBlocX as was looking for ideas to transform his sloping garden. His vision was to create an area in his garden that could be used for BBQs and entertaining friends and family. Using our Free Design Service we worked collaboratively with Ryan to create a low maintenance multifunctional space that that integrated planting, seating and steps.
We met up with Ryan after finishing the project to see how everything went..
What did you want to do with your garden when you contacted WoodBlocX?
"I first got in touch with WoodBlocX as I wanted to build a retaining wall to create a space where I could meet with my friends and use the barbeque in the summer. I realised WoodBlocX was the ideal solution as you offered the bespoke design service and could do everything I was after in one go, the wall, the flowerbeds and the steps. It was much easier than having three or more separate projects, bringing in an expensive builder to make the wall and muddling my way around some brick steps!
I did have a builder come to discuss the retaining wall and he quoted £6,000!! That was before we started making the steps and putting in planters and benches. With something like WoodBlocX and the free design service, I was able to talk to the guys and make sure what I was doing was going to be strong enough, and I was able to do it myself. All in all, it saved me a lot of money."
How did you hear about WoodBlocX?
"Google is the short answer! I simply googled retaining walls and WoodBlocX was one of the top hits and certainly looked like the best option in terms of cost and quality. When I first started there were 2 big planters about 6 feet high and I wanted to get rid of them to develop the space, and what I thought I needed was a retaining wall. So I searched online and came across a number of options, including the bulkhead section of the WoodBlocX website. The maximum height, however, was given at 1.05 meters high, which wasn't enough for what I intended to do but I contacted the WoodBlocX design team to see if there was any way we could get it to work and they came up with some great options I hadn't thought of which worked perfectly for the space!"
Why did you choose WoodBlocX?
"The free design service was a great part of the package, and I could do it all myself, I did not need any special skills or expertise, so that really appealed to me. The price was also a very important reason, like I said the costs would have be around £9,000 or £10,000, but with WoodBlocX, the total cost was less than half and there were no other costs. I love the finished look and everyone who has visited has been so impressed with the quality!"
