John’s garden featured a large lawn area alongside a small paved patio. He was looking for a way to add structure and definition to the space while creating attractive planting areas for shrubs and flowers. At the same time, he wanted to incorporate a comfortable seating area where he could relax and enjoy the garden.
By choosing a bespoke WoodBlocX design, John was able to combine both requirements, creating raised planters that frame the garden beautifully while providing integrated seating to make the most of his outdoor space.
John’s garden featured a spacious, level lawn enclosed by timber fencing, providing a blank canvas for enhancing the overall layout. The generous space along the fence line was perfectly suited to a long raised planter with integrated seating, helping to frame the garden while making the most of the available area.
The design created a dedicated planting space for a variety of shrubs and flowers, while the built-in bench offers a comfortable place to sit, relax and enjoy views across the garden throughout the year.
When planning his raised bed design, John wanted to maximise the available space around the perimeter of his lawn while creating a practical and inviting garden layout. Using our Free Design Service, he opted for a striking L-shaped planter with an integrated seating bench, helping to frame the garden and make the most of the surrounding area.
The generous L-shaped design provides plenty of room for planting while also creating a comfortable spot to sit back and enjoy the garden. To further increase his growing space, John also incorporated an additional rectangular raised bed elsewhere in the garden, adding even more opportunities for planting and enhancing the overall design.
Preparation and building
The area for the project was already relatively level, with the customer carrying out some minor ground preparation by removing sections of turf before construction began. WoodBlocX structures can be installed on both hard and soft ground, provided the base is level and stable. For this project, the raised beds were built directly onto soft ground and secured in place using ground spikes.
Each planter was supplied with clear, step-by-step assembly instructions, allowing the customer to build the structures layer by layer with ease. Internal DPM liners were fitted to each raised bed to help protect the timber and maximise the lifespan of the planters. To complete the design, the customer selected our modern capping, adding a smart and attractive finishing touch to each raised bed.
Finished Garden
John’s completed garden transformation features a striking L-shaped raised planter with an integrated seating bench, creating a dedicated space to relax and enjoy the surrounding garden. Positioned neatly along the edge of the lawn, the planter makes excellent use of the available space while helping to define and frame the garden layout.
The generous planting area provides plenty of room for a mix of shrubs, perennials and seasonal flowers, allowing John to introduce colour, texture and interest throughout the year. As the plants mature, the raised bed will become a vibrant focal point, bringing bursts of colour during the spring and summer months while adding structure and greenery during the rest of the seasons.
The built-in seating offers the perfect spot to sit back with a cup of tea, admire the planting displays and make the most of the outdoor space. Combining practical growing areas with a comfortable seating feature, the finished design has created a garden that is both beautiful and functional.
