Steve's L-Shaped garden border

Making garden beds and borders accessible and attractive with WoodBlocX

The garden before

Before Steve embarked on a WoodBlocX update his garden was well-kept with a central lawn decorative borders and a patio area, however, he wanted to make the beds more accessible for planting, watering and tending his shrubs and small trees whilst creating a striking display.

After contacting us through our Free Design Service with the measurements for his space and an outline of what he wanted to create, our designer Calum started working on a series of concepts that would really bring the garden to life.

Modular garden design

Calum's design featured seven separate planting sections within a continuous design , wrapping around the garden perimeter, fitting perfectly into the space. To add interest the raised garden planters sit at different heights. This is a great option for long-planters and is also ideal if you plan to include plants of different heights.

The design also has three rectangular raised planters which protrude outwards, these make a great design feature.

The design is finished with our flush capping. We have two types of capping available when using our Free Design Service - a traditional capping which has a slight overhang and the flush which is the same width as our BlocX (this style provides a more minimal/sleek finish for modern gardens).

Steve has added a small patio area in one of the corners, this space is ideal for adding a small bistro garden set to provide an alternative space for relaxing to his existing patio. There is also a small water feature to the adjacent corner of the design too.

Please note: when you use our Free Design Service, we only design bespoke solutions using our modular WoodBlocX product. We do not create planting plans or full garden landscaping designs (for example patios, decking or pathways) but can design your WoodBlocX structure to fit around items already in your garden.

Tiered Raised beds

Stepped or tiered raised beds are the perfect choice for bringing a little extra height to a planted area. They are also a great choice where space is limited, as they can be used to divide up a growing area – into productive and ornamental zones for example – and plants can be allowed to cascade over the front of the step(s), utilising the vertical as well as the horizontal space.
