Seb and Katja's bespoke fire pit planter bench

Creating a private corner seating area

Seb and Katja wanted to create a seating area in their large garden. The space was fairly open and the idea was to create a little bit of privacy by combining a seating area which could be planted out with some tall plants and grasses to create a natural privacy screen.

Planning the garden

Seb and Katja were open to options for their garden and did some research to find inspiration in stores and online. After lots of searching they found WoodBlocX and loved the idea and the design possibilities. By using WoodBlocX they could get something completely unique for them and their garden.

They used our Free Design Service and we worked with them to create a design based on their ideas. Initially they considered a circular fire pit planter bench but settled on a square design which suited their garden and their future plans for the garden much better.

Seb said: Working with the design team was a perfect example of good customer care. Definitely one of my best experiences as a customer so far. Our designer, Harry was thoughtful and helpful. Once we had a design we were happy with we adjusted the measurements to our space in the garden and voilà, here we are.

Preparation and building

In most cases, WoodBlocX structures don't need any significant groundworks, however Seb and Katja wanted to create a totally separate space in their garden and decided to install a patio which the bench would be built on. Their patio design featured two straight sides to mirror the shape of the bench, plus a beautiful curve to soften the angles.

On building with WoodBlocX Seb said: "We built the design ourselves, it took us two days and the process was really simple. Once you have figured it out and are in the flow it’s as easy as playing with LEGO bricks."

The finished design

The final design included two tiers of slim planters which form the backrests with two additional planters on each end and plenty of seating space to sit and enjoy the garden or the fire pit. The design uses our traditional over hanging capping along the two raised planter backrests and our flush capping on the two planters which are at each end of the design, this allowed for a flawless finish between the seating and planters.

There was a few BlocX and capping left over and they put it to good use and made a small square stool too!
