Planning the playground
Winchelsea Primary School wanted to transform an internal courtyard into a sensory garden for its pupils. We created a bespoke design featuring a circular planter as a centrepiece with two curved planters bordering it with pathways in between to ensure all areas of the planters are accessible to pupils.
Being a modular system means we are able to create curved designs across all of our structures, including raised planters, benches and retaining walls. From full circle shapes to curved sides, it can all be achieved using WoodBlocX.
Using a natural material like wood for sensory gardens helps to enhance the space by helping us feel closer to nature. It’s texture is natural and comforting and has been proven to create better conditions for learning which makes it an ideal material to use in schools.
The finished playground
The courtyard garden at Winchelsea Primary School has been transformed into a sensory space for pupils with the centrepiece being a circular raised planter bordered by two curved planters to complement the range of interactive sensory features included within the overall design of the garden.
Each planter has been designed at a height which is easily accessible for youngsters and planted with a wide variety of fragrant herbs
