Terraced planters and seating

WoodBlocX is an ideal replacement for aging retaining walls, raised beds and borders. In this case the customer had a series of very old retaining walls, he wanted to make the space accessible and safe for his family, the design focussed on the property-level patio area which would be used for entertaining and outdoor dining. We created a L-shaped sloped garden design that wraps around the space and includes four key layers; a retaining wall at the top, two large planters and a seat that would comfortably fit up to six people, plus steps up to the top of the garden, all in this relatively small space. This customer was unsure what to do with a section between the lawn and patio of this sloped garden. After contacting our design team with measurements and some rough ideas, a design that fitted perfectly into the space was created. Four large planters on two levels with steps in the centre have not only improved the space massively but have also made it much more accessible and created additional planting space to add an ornamental garden that provides all-year-round colour and interest. For ideas for sloped gardens on a budget this is a great example. Our customer had a small and slightly sloping front garden space to be levelled out to improve the appearance of the front of the house, and working to a tight budget. By adding a small retaining wall and an additional step the slope was dealt with. The wall has made a brilliant feature and the step has created a centrepiece leading to a decorative lawn. This customer also added an adjoining raised bed to complete this quick, low budget garden update costing less than £350.

Large sloped front garden

This large sloping front garden originally had an unusable lawn, which would have been extremely difficult to mow. It was transformed using a bespoke WoodBlocX retaining wall design featuring two straight retaining walls with a decorative stepped border, which followed the garden downwards.

For straight and angled walls use our Retaining Wall Calculator for more technical designs use our Free Design Service.

Steps for steep gardens

Steps can be created very easily using WoodBlocX, whether they need to fit in between a particular space or stand alone. This planter/step combination creates an accessible link between the top and bottom of the huge, steep garden.
